Only Three Game 7 Overtimes in NHL History

Only twice has a Game 7 gone to overtime in the Stanley Cup Final. In 1950, Pete Babando of the Detroit Red Wings scored the game-winning goal in overtime against the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 1954, Tony Leswick of the Red Wings scored the game-winner in overtime against the Montreal Canadiens.

First Game 7 Overtime Winner

The first Game 7 overtime winner in NHL history was Babando in 1950. The Red Wings had won the first three games of the series, but the Maple Leafs came back to win the next three. Babando's goal in overtime gave the Red Wings the Stanley Cup.

Second Game 7 Overtime Winner

Leswick's goal in overtime in 1954 gave the Red Wings their second Game 7 overtime victory in the Stanley Cup Final. The Canadiens had won the first two games of the series, but the Red Wings came back to win the next three. Leswick's goal in overtime gave the Red Wings the Stanley Cup.

Third Game 7 Overtime Winner

The third Game 7 overtime winner in NHL history came in 2019, when David Krejci of the Boston Bruins scored the game-winning goal against the St. Louis Blues. The Bruins won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 39 years by becoming the first visiting team to have a shutout in Game 7 of the Final.
